Denny Hamlin, a driver for NASCAR, was fined $50,000 in March 2023 after he acknowledged trying to rig a race. Following the occasion, Hamlin stated on a podcast that he had not accidentally connected with Ross Chastain. In an attempt to rig the point standings, he deliberately struck his opponent's vehicle.

Although race officials dispute this, many argue that this form of race manipulation is standard practice in the sport. In addition to the $50,000 fine that Hamlin must pay, he will lose 25 points in the season standings. Hamlin plans to contest the fine.
